Eureka

So I have had a new book idea for about eight months. My publisher liked the basic premise and gave me the green light to put together an outline. Which is a hell of a lot harder than you think. I’ve started the outline eighteen times. Each time I got to chapter three I gave up sure that it was all rubbish. I tried sorting out the book sober, caffeinated, exhausted on a plane and drunk after getting home from a party – nothing was working except for the overall idea. And that my friends is the insidious part. Strong ideas are only the very start. After that it’s the details that count most, and those are very difficult to come by.

After eighteen false starts and having this idea follow me around like a bad date for nine months, I finally cracked it. The outline is flowing like wine at a bacchanalian and I think my publisher will be thrilled. If he ever calls me back.
